Statement on Foreign Affairs Committee Report on Dirty Money

Kensington Against Dirty Money Statement on the new report from the Commons Foreign Affairs Committee on dirty money in Britain:

“The government has for too long left our enforcement agencies toothless and starved of the necessary resources to root out the UK’s dirty money addiction.

That’s why Kensington Against Dirty Money, a broad coalition of local activists, charities and national campaigners, has been pushing hard for comprehensive national legislation to provide transparency over anonymous foreign owned property in Britain and for proper financing to the National Crime Agency to crack down on financial crime.

This legislation will be the most crucial economic crime overhaul in decades and the government can't afford to get this wrong. We need to stem the flow of illicit finance in the UK for good so that communities like Kensington can start to recover from decades of dirty money pushing up inequality and making homes even more unaffordable.

We welcome this report from the Foreign Affairs Committee that makes clear our campaign is on the right track, and that the government must go much further to tackle this problem.”
